OEPA Membership
In just six short years, the Oklahoma Energy Producers Alliance (OEPA) has made monumental strides in changing the narrative in Oklahoma. Most people don’t realize there is a difference between the big oil companies and the small independent oil and gas producers. There is a huge difference. OEPA represents the conventional (vertical) producers in Oklahoma who have been here for generations and are here to stay. We spend our own money and that of our long-time partners and we have to return a profit. We are now the only independent oil and gas association in Oklahoma.
It’s always challenging starting something new, but the response to this new association has been overwhelming. In just Six short years, OEPA has grown to over 525 members strong across the state and gaining.
We have a strong legislative and regulatory front! Recently we saved the percentage depletion deduction when it was being sacrificed in the compromise revenue legislation. We stopped a rule proposed by Devon that would make vertical well owners’ responsible for preventing the damage a horizontal frack job might do. We were able to get House Bill 1379 out of committee with a 12-4 vote. That bill, by OEPA Board Member and Senator Zack Taylor, simply makes horizontal fracker’s responsible for the damage they cause. Pretty simple. You break it – you fix it! We submitted this bill again in the most recent legislative session. We continuously build relationships with legislators across the state, because we know informing them on our issues and becoming their experts is how we get our voice heard.
OEPA works to make major impacts for our members across our state. Our presence at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission is unequaled – we have stood up to horizontal drillers who want to take our reserves by supporting legal actions in the courts. We continue to make great strides to ensure we are fairly compensated before our wells are destroyed and have multiple attorneys working with members each day who have been directly affected by horizontal fracking. We offer a safety dividend insurance program and we continue to work to include health and general liability programs. We’ve successfully been able to host an Annual Meeting that is top-notch three years in a row! We host Lunch & Learns across the state to allow others to learn about the association and our impact on Oklahoma. Also, we created an educational video that explains how horizontal fracking damages vertical wells. This video has been shown to legislators, members, and others sparking great conversations on how to prevent this damage from continuing without fair compensation. Click here to see the video.

Advocacy
OEPA continuously fights for your rights at the State Legsialtor and Corporation Commission.
OEPA spearheaded the Restore Oklahoma Initiative Petition (SQ 795). This petition sought to restore the state gross production on all oil and natural gas wells from 2% on new wells to the historical level of 7% for all wells. This additional revenue would be used to pay Oklahoma teachers. Learn more here.
